Childhood memories

shoes tea addict

Have I mentioned that I'm addicted to my phone's camera? I love taking quick pictures of random objects / situations. I've been wearing my minnetonka shoes pretty much every day in the past weeks. They're super comfortable and they pretty much match all my clothes. Also, I've been drinking tea all the time lately. Whenever I come home between classes I feel like I need a cup of hot tea. And it's a pretty healthy addiction, isn't it?

Btw, my instagram username is froggeddesigns if you're curious :)

Here's a sneak peak at the 30 Days of Lists book I've been working on. I'm really bad at sharing my pages (I always forget to photograph the pages during the daytime - and artificial light does horrible things to colors!) but I promise I'll share them this week!
Here's what I came up with for the promt "things that remind me of my childhood". Art journalling with very few materials (namely one Noa Noa catalog, one Toast catalog and an IKEA catalog haha) is challenging. But it also forces me to come up with new solutions - e.g. the dot paper in the corners was part of a $50 cents note pad I got at Michaels. The two images are form the 2012 IKEA catalog and all other things were hand drawn by me.

Drawing is one of the things I generally avoid because I feel that I'm not very talented (to put it nicely). I used google image search as a source of inspiration.

Soo, any things that remind you of your childhood? I'm curious :)

The past week...

...has been filled with lots of readings, getting to know new people, exploring Vancouver and enjoying the last bits of summer.

I finally went to the Michael's store. YAY. The store is pretty big and you only have to take one bus to get there. Easy peasy (especially if you have google maps + public transit option.) The yarn choice was pretty disappointing - 99% of the yarns are wool blends with acrylic, polyamide etc. But there's a yarn store only about 15mins from UBC that I'll check out next week - when they have a knit night :)

knitting

I love walking around campus at night - so peaceful.

walking

I tend to be rather lazy in the morning and prefer to have breakfast in my room. I'd be sarved by the time I showerd, got ready and walked to the dining hall. So my breakfast pretty much always consists of cereals, oatmeal and (very very seldomly) some fruit. I really need to find a grocery store with 'cheap' fruits. The prices on/near campus are ridiculous - $2,50 for one pound of apples??!

eating

Today I went to Gastown, a really beautiful neighborhood. We found an amazing coffee shop with the best chocolate chip cookies ever. And the hot chocolate Elizabteh got looked lovely :)

drinking

This cute little device has saved my life at least a hundred times since I got it. I don't know how I survived twenty years without a phone with GPS. It's truly life saving. And on campus you have wifi pretty much everywhere which is really handy if you wanna look up a word on the internet or google concepts your professor doesn't explain comprehensively. Also, it is pretty sweet to have a camera with you all the time.

texting savoring wearing

Last weekend we went to the night market in Richmond - which was pretty disappointing and all the things one could buy were cheap fake things from China. They aso had lots of food stalls (for people who like coleoidea - go there, they have tons of them. In all different sizes)

wandering

Also, I've been working on my 30 Days of Lists book but I can't share any pictures yet because I'm never home during the daytime when there's natural light. And the lights in my room distort the colors...

I'll share pictures of my dorm room as soon as my quilt arrives. It already feels much more comfortable than in the beginning :)

Now...

UBC Rose Garden

This is what I'm doing. I can come up with a million other things I'd rather be doing. Like having a nice cup of tea with a friend. Or taking a walk outside. Or knit something. Oh well, I guess I should stop complaining because I've had a pretty nice weekend, sitting in the sun and exploring downtown. Maybe I should also mention that it didn't rain once since I came to Vancouver. Yet I'm looking online where to get used rainboots.

It might sound crazy but I'm looking forward to autumn - taking long walks, rustling leaves, drinking lots of hot beverages, getting to wear hand knitted socks every day and not feeling lazy when sitting in bed in the evening, watching tv series and knitting :)

UBC Campus

After I shared my drm room with you I thought it would be fun to show you what the UBC Campus looks like!

UBC Rose Garden

SO this is the view from the rose garden. So pretty!

Wreck Breach

Wreck Beach, about a 10 minute walk from my dorm.

Library

One of the libraries. They always use a picture of the entrance (= the old part of the bulding) for all their brochures, websites etc. to show off how beautiful the buildings are. Unfortunately only about 5% of the buldings on campus can be described as 'pretty'.

echo

This is the 'echo chamber'. It's a construction on campus that allows you to hear an echo of everything you say when you stand in the middle of it. Sounds crazy as it's outside and it looks like a stone table with a couple of benches around but it actually works! Really cool.

Tree upside down

Now this was some weird science experiment. Students transplanted this tree - upside down! So what you see as 'the top' used to be the roots of it! It's amazing that the tree survived.

Chan Center

This is the chan center where all the graduations etc. take place. It is huuuge! And beautiful.

Hangers! Bill

Some random instagram pictures. Actually the hangers you see were super cheap (2,39$) and look so cute! They aren't heavy either so I'll definitely take them back home :)

Mountain Dew ?!

And yellowish Mountain Dew. Looks ugly. I guess i'm back to drinking water 24/7

30 Days of Lists

So there's this really amazing online class called 30 Days of Lists that basically is designed for people who don't have time to scrapbook/art journal everyday for hours. So they post a list prompt every day. So it can be a simple list in a notebook or a scrapbook page with lots of fancy stuff on it.

As I have hardly any scrapbook materials here in dorm my pages are rather simple. Yet I like them. A lot :)

Scrappy Time

This is what my desk (which is huge, btw) looks like. All messy :)

30 Lists Cover

Here's the cover of my 30 Lists mini book. I used a moleskine journal I still had. The cover doesn't look fancy but I'm fine with it for now.

30 Lists

I don't really like starting out my art journals right on my first page so I usually have like a second cover.

30 Lists Day 1

Day 1: Goals for September

30 Lists Day 2

Day 2: I'm happiest when...

30Lists Day 3

Day 3: People I love

So far I really enjoy the class and I think it'll be a great memory of my first month of uni experience.

So, anyone else out there who's participating?

dorm pictures, i guess

So I thought I'd share my dorm room with you really quick. It's not really comfy yet cause there's no decoration etc. but I'm working on it!

So without further ado, here's my dorm!
